I had a rather mixed experience at this hotel. On the positive side, the family room was spacious and well-decorated with artistic touches. The location is fantastic, just a short walk from the castle and Dickens' hometown. However, I was disappointed with the service and dining. The long wait for our meals and the staff's dismissive attitude left a sour taste. I expected more for the price we paid.

The service was disappointing, with a lack of responsiveness and a dismissive attitude when we inquired about our meal.

The hotel is conveniently located near the castle and Charles Dickens' childhood home, making it easy to explore the area.
Dining

I found the dining experience lacking due to a long wait for food and a less-than-friendly exchange with staff.

While I didn't extensively explore the facilities, the artistic decor throughout the hotel adds a unique character.

I had a mixed experience at this hotel. The staff were welcoming and attentive, making us feel at home during our Sunday carvery, and the food was truly delicious. However, my stay was somewhat marred by the noise from the pub below, which made it challenging to relax in the evenings. Overall, it’s a decent place for a meal and family time, but I would be cautious about noise levels if you’re sensitive to that.

I had a mixed experience at this hotel. There were definitely some highlights, like the delicious food and the friendly nature of the staff, but there were also significant issues with the room quality and overall cleanliness. I would recommend choosing a refurbished room if you stay here.

The room quality was hit or miss. Room 11 was well-equipped but lacked basic items like cups, while Room 9 urgently needed refurbishment.

I found the hallways and bathrooms in need of better maintenance. The staircases were quite dark and uninviting.

I had a mixed experience at this hotel. While the Sunday lunch carvery was absolutely delicious and clearly a highlight, the service during lunch left much to be desired due to the long wait times and rude remarks from the staff. The DJ in the entertainment area really ruined our night out, which was disappointing. Overall, the food is a major plus, but I would hesitate to recommend it based on the service issues.

I had a mixed experience at this hotel. The welcoming staff certainly made my stay more pleasant, and the Sunday carvery was deliciously hearty, but the variable quality of the rooms was a downside. Some areas like the staircase felt a bit neglected. Overall, you might want to ensure you get a room that's been refurbished for a better experience.

Rooms

The rooms were quite variable; while some were well-equipped, others desperately need refurbishment. Room 11 was fine, but room 9 was quite basic and outdated.
